Arthritis - Real Pain - Click It Hot A Real Solution
Two of the simplest, least expensive and most effective methods of pain relief for arthritis are heat and cold treatments.
Heat treatments, such as heat pads or warm baths, tend to work best for soothing stiff joints and tired muscles associated with arthritis. Heat is especially good for getting your body limber and ready for exercise or activity. Cold is best for acute pain, numbing painful areas and decreasing inflammation and swelling.
Most people use hot water bottles, electric heating pads, microwave hot packs or ice packs in the freezer to remedy the pain, however most of the time these tools are ineffective.
Here’s why –
•Inability to microwave the heat pack –
We typically experience pain when we are at the store, in our car, at a restaurant, or out with others. A heat pack at home when we are in pain somewhere else if NOT effective!
•The heat pack gets too hot and burns the skin.
As we age our skin becomes more thin and burning the delicate tissue can happen within a matter of a minute or less.
•The heat pack does not stay warm long enough to be effective.
Most microwaveable herb, rice, corn, etc. bags do not retain the heat for more than 5-10 minutes. Not long enough to allow the muscle fibers to start releasing resulting in effective relief.
•The heat pack is too bulky to wrap the proper part.
Microwaveable products are usually bulky, heavy and just do not wrap easily around a knuckle, finger, joint or wrist.
•The cold pack is not flexible and is unable to wrap the proper part.
Cold packs are usually stiff and hard when you take them out of the freezer and therefore unable to wrap the complete area that is in pain.
•The cold pack gets the whole area wet.
Some cold packs such as ice wrapped in a cloth, bag, etc can drip whiles it warms, causing you to become wet and uncomfortable.
•The cold pack is too cold to be placed directly next to the skin.
Ice or anything colder than ice should not be placed directly against the skin. Cold will cause the cells to atrophy and die. As we age this can occur even faster.
•The cold pack is too bulky to wrap the whole area.
Most cold packs are big and bulky – inefficient in wrapping a knuckle, finger, joint or wrist properly.
•The cold pack does not stay cold long enough to be effective.
Most flexible cold packs do not keep their coolness long enough to effective in reducing the swelling and eliminating the pain.
